Tips for Handling DDoS Attacks

“List vulnerable, high priority resources,” is a sensible step. In this day and age, the targets of distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks are often key resources, such as servers hosting business critical applications and services, so you can pretty much count on those being negatively impacted during an attack. Creating backup copies of documents and lists of key personnel to contact in the event of an emergency is quite fundamental to any crisis management plan, but especially so when under a DDoS attack.
We’ve seen this with several recent attacks against financial institutions and others that used new malicious code to attack the DNS sub-system of the victim organizations. This type of attack brought the targets down in two ways; bandwidth exhaustion and by overwhelming processing capacity.
“Partner with an upstream provider,” includes a suggestion that Firewalls and Load Balancers can form part of your DDoS defenses but, in reality, that is not true. They may be able to protect themselves to a certain degree, from basic attacks, but any claimed DDoS defenses are likely to be basic, at best, and totally inadequate for ensuring business continuity. Modern firewalls are stateful, by design, making them unable to handle DDoS attacks, which are often created specifically to overwhelm that state tracking. Additionally, firewalls dictate which services may be used, but not how they are used. Attackers know this and often craft their attacks to specifically target those allowed services, or the servers which host them.

dos attack vs ddos Advance Security Options

Under the security screen you can easily block all XML-RPC traffic, aggressive bots, enable additional security headers like HSTS, and much more. Note: XML-RPC traffic was already blocked on this particular site.

One thing we really like was their real-time DDoS protection view. You can easily go into it and see an entire log of current requests. You can one-click blacklist or whitelist anything suspicious, and it will even give you a reason if it was already blocked.
There are a lot of other useful reports, such as the blocked attacks chart. This allows you to quickly see a percentage of what types of attacks are being blocked, including DDoS attacks. Some other charts in this window include traffic by browser type, devices, and HTTP response codes.

Far better to protect yourself from the effects of an attack in the first place. And don’t be tempted to mount another DDoS attack against your competitor in response. This is illegal and it’s far better to reassure yourself that a competitor desperate enough to use measures such as these probably won’t have the longevity or reputation that your business does.

Why you should pursue CompTIA certification?

Cyber Security is one of the fastest-growing fields in the IT sector and if you look from the organizational view, it is one of the most important specializations. Both medium and established organizations are continuously searching for Certified Security + Professionals who possess the knowledge and skills to protect their data from the unauthentic snoopers.
The security + certification is the professional-level certification that covers several key concepts in the IT sectors including data hosting security, threats, network, system vulnerabilities, compliance, cryptography and more. The security certification you will obtain will showcase all these credentials along with the fact that you can not only identify risk but also mitigate it before any security problem occurs. In addition, CompTIA Security+ is also the prerequisite certification for other certifications like CompTIA CySA+ and CompTIA network+.
The great thing about the CE program, as outlined above, is that you can renew your CompTIA certification by achieving additional industry related certifications. So, not only do you maintain your current certification, you have the opportunity to expand your skill set and certification into another area.

To renew a certification, you are required to achieve Continuing Education Units. To renew the CompTIA A+ you'll need to acquire 20 . Below are a list of Firebrand's accelerated courses which meet this criteria

Advantages of CompTIA A+ Certification

There is a specific time limit of 90 minutes to take the exam.  With just a little math, you can calculate that you will have a minute to solve each question, but usually, the multiple-choice ones take much less time to solve than the performance-based portion of the exam.
Performance-based exams have a rather greater present level of difficulty than the others. You can save your current improvement and with the passage of time, you can progress, just note the precise question that you do not yet feel you can finish in time, and continue with the test. You can come back to the questions you skipped at the end of the exam and review it. The maximum score reasonable on either test is 900, and the passing score is 775 and 800 correspondingly.
One of the most significant advantages of the CompTIA Security+ Certification Training is the fact that it is recognized and accepted anywhere in the United States. It is not only approved by the U.S. Department of Defense but is their mandated network cybersecurity certification as well.

comptia jobs Systems Administrator

Systems administrators wear a lot of hats in the information security realm. Generally speaking, the big picture of the systems administrator role is an IT professional who is charged with planning, implementing, and maintaining computer and sever systems for an organization. That’s a very broad description – there are many specialized systems administrators who have more specific and unique roles within the information security field.

Penetration testers are the IT professionals who look for and identify vulnerabilities in an organization’s network security, exploit them to test the stability and security of the system, and then make recommendations for how to resolve the vulnerabilities. Penetration testers are considered to be vital in environments with a proactive cybersecurity strategy. Passing the Security+ certification exam will provide you with the basic knowledge that is needed to qualify for an entry-level pen testing job, and can be paired with additional training (like Certified Ethical Hacker certification) to advance to even more exciting and unique roles.
A systems administrator is responsible for all hardware and software for a company’s computers. They are required to stay up to date with installing the latest patches and programs. The systems administrator also provides technical support to employees, troubleshooting any computer-related issues.

What’s Happening To The CompTIA Security+ Exam?

Aspiring IT professionals frequently ask me questions like “How can I get into an IT job?” and “What is the best IT certification path for a network administrator?” Unfortunately, there isn't a one-size-fits-all answer because there are so many variables, such as how much knowledge you start with and what type of jobs are available where you live.
However, if you are focused on landing an IT job and you‘re willing to take the time to master the materials, you can earn several certifications that will make you highly desirable as a network administrator, one of the industry’s most essential and opportunity-rich positions. Learn the material, earn the certifications, and you’ll have an opportunity to shine at network administration job interviews.
First, what is a network administrator? Most people define a network administrator as someone that maintains hardware and software on a computer network. In a large organization, the network administrator is a mid-level IT worker focused primarily on maintaining networking components. However, in smaller organizations, the network administrator is also responsible for desktop support for end-users, maintaining servers, and managing any other devices connected to the network.
CompTIA has ISO/IEC 17024 certification. ISO/IEC 17024 means that you are certified to run a certification program. This focuses on having well-documented processes including scheduled exam revisions.
CompTIA says that the Security+ exam “is scheduled to be updated to SY0-501 for the summer of 2017” and there will be an overlap of approximately six months in which you can choose to take either the SY0-401 or SY0-501 version. That’s vague enough to allow some wiggle room. My guess is that SY0-401 will end on December 31, 2017. End of year, end of the test, like SY0-301 and 2014. Meanwhile, the SY0-501 exam will appear sometime roughly “in the summer”.

CompTIA Exam Tricks and Secrets to Help

Given that the 220-901/902 objective blueprints weigh in at 52 PDF pages, we're clearly talking about a huge volume of computer repair technician skills. How in the world can you master the knowledge? That's where Pluralsight comes in. I spent approximately five months working full-time on our our 220-901 and 220-902 learning paths[A1] , and I structured every one of my video lessons to correspond exactly to those exam objectives. Every single line item is covered!
A common question I receive from students is, "Should I start with the hardware or the software exam?" You know, it truly doesn't matter because you'll earn your A+ certificate after you pass both exams, not just one. Therefore, I advise you to start where you're most comfortable, given your background with computers.
I’m going to assume you know all the classic multiple-choice test-taking strategies – so use them! The CompTIA A+ exam interface has all the hallmarks of a good exam (marking questions for later, question review, clear timers), so it’s easy to fall back on your multiple-choice skills.
Plus, it seems to me that the A+ exams are particularly susceptible to good strategies. For example, wrong answers on one question are often the correct answers on another.

comptia a+ certification salary

CompTIA is the computer industry group that oversees common certifications such as A+, Network+, and Server+, and its certifications have always been good indefinitely.
Not anymore. In a policy change announced this month, CompTIA dropped a bombshell on the hundreds of thousands of people who hold its certifications: those credentials are now good for only three years—and the change in policy is retroactive
CompTIA announced the change earlier this month. Over the last several years, CompTIA has had its certs accredited by the US-focused ANSI and then the internationally oriented ISO (yes, both groups actually "certify the certifiers"). Such accreditation means that CompTIA certs are more valuable to holders, but ANSI and ISO want to make sure that cert holders stay up to date. That meant changing CompTIA's longstanding policy that certs were good forever—and the move has enraged many who spent several hundred dollars on what they believed was a lifetime qualification.
Network+ certification ensures that the successful candidate has the required skillsets to manage basic network infrastructure and manage it efficiently by having knowledge of troubleshooting, installing, configuring and operating the infrastructure.
This certificate showcases that a candidate has the knowledge of the conceptual aspects of networking and a basic competency in the physical support of the network systems. It enjoys wide recognition throughout the IT industry, with it being considered a natural next step after CompTIA A+ certification.

Since CompTIA A+ 220-902came into existence in 1993, it remains a relevant course. That’s because there has been an update which occurs after every three years from 2001 up to date. It doesn’t come as a surprise because of the rapid evolution as far technology is concerned. As much as that has been the case for almost two decades, one must admit that the new change is a huge milestone. That leaves what was known about the CompTIA A+ 220-902somehow unknown.
